Girl Scouts Horse Fan Badge Program
Horse Fan Badge Activities:
1. On the Trail – find out about trail riding
in your community. 2. Caring for Horses – visit our stable and find out
about feeding, everyday care, shoeing, etc. 3. Fashion and Function –
correct and safe clothing for equestrian. 4. Horses through History –
make a booklet about history and development of horses. 5. Song of the
Horse – listen to cowboy ballads. 6. Make a career of Riding – explore
at least three horse related careers. 7. Ease with Equipment – parts of
the saddle and bridle. 8. Horse “Tales” – famous or legendary
horses. 9. Horse Stories – read a book about horses. 10.
Showing Off – attend a horsemanship event.
For the”Horse Fan” Badge, Girl Scouts are to choose 6 of
the 10 listed Activities in their Badge Book. Many of the Activities are
research projects that the girls are to look up and find out about themselves.
The intent of this badge is for the girls to spend time researching these
subjects. Therefore, in the spirit of this intent, Trinity Stable will provide
some guidance but leave some portions for the individual and troop work.
We will also give some ideas on some of the other information they are to
collect for other Activity choices. TRINITY STABLE HORSE FAN BADGE
PROGRAM Trinity Stable will do a Clinic for the troop which includes Activity
Numbers 1 and 2. In addition, the troop will choose 2 more of the
following activities 3, 6 or 7. TOTAL TIME: 1 hour COST: NO
CHARGE
TRINITY STABLE RIDING ADD-ONS TO HORSE FAN
BADGE: There are no required Horseback Riding Activities for the Horse Fan
Badge. However, if your troop would like to add in a Ride, we can offer Riding
at a onetime special price. Our “Normal” price for Group Lessons is $35 per 1
hour lesson per person. For our Scout Troops, we offer a special 1 hour clinic
at a discount price of $50. We will use two horses and the girls will take
turns riding and watching each other in our Riding Arena. We will not go over
any lesson material; however, each girl will be offered the opportunity to trot
the horse if she chooses (while being led). We carefully watch balance issues
and stop the trot if we see any signs of a loss of balance. TOTAL TIME ADDED:
45 minutes TOTAL COST ADDED: $50 per Troop
